Lisa + Jim | Sacred and Scenic Catholic Elopement | Ocean Beach

A Fall Catholic Elopement in Ocean Beach with Sunset Cliffs Romance

Lisa and Jim’s Catholic elopement in Ocean Beach was the perfect blend of heartfelt, meaningful, and relaxed. This was a second marriage for both of them, and you could feel the joy and intention behind every part of the day. They’re both retired, very active, and had been looking forward to this celebration for some time. Lisa found me through my website while searching for a San Diego wedding photographer who fit their vibe—and since they were getting married just down the street from me, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ocean Beach, it was a perfect match.

The ceremony took place in mid-October, and afterward we headed to Sunset Cliffs for romantic portraits on the edge of the sea. This Catholic elopement had everything—beautiful light, meaningful moments, and the kind of intimacy that reminds you why small weddings are so special.

A Catholic Elopement with Deep Roots and Coastal Views

Lisa and Jim chose Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a very special reason. Their former pastor, Father Billy, had moved to Ocean Beach after formerly leading worship at their church in San Marcos. They’d always admired him, so when it came time to tie the knot, they arranged for their Catholic elopement to be officiated by someone they trusted and loved. That connection made the ceremony even more personal and heartfelt.

This was actually my first time photographing at Sacred Heart—but it’s just four blocks from my house, and I’ve walked past it countless times with my dog. Being so local, I knew exactly how to make the most of the space for portraits. We took some gorgeous shots inside the church with its beautiful architecture, then moved outside for courtyard photos and a few on the front steps.

From there, we headed to Sunset Cliffs, one of the most iconic San Diego wedding photo locations. Lisa and Jim both used to live near Ocean Beach, and still love returning to it. Taking portraits there felt like the perfect way to celebrate their new chapter. The cliffs gave us soft golden light, crashing waves, and sweeping ocean views—pure Southern California wedding photography magic.

Casual Elegance, Intimate Moments, and Artwork to Treasure

Their style matched the coastal setting beautifully. Jim wore a tan suit, and Lisa stunned in a beige formal dress with blush undertones and intricate floral patterns. Her adult daughters, their only guests and witnesses, wore soft green dresses—Jim’s favorite color. The ceremony was sweet and simple, with just the couple, Lisa’s daughters, and Father Billy. Both daughters signed the marriage license, making it official. No décor, no distractions—just connection and love.

After the elopement, I helped Lisa and Jim design an heirloom wedding album and a custom metal wall print for their home. They wanted something tangible to celebrate and relive the day, and I was so excited to help bring that vision to life. Congratulations again, Lisa and Jim! Your Catholic elopement was such a joy to witness and photograph. Here’s to many more seaside sunsets and beautiful years ahead.
