A Brief History of Twin Oaks House & Gardens

Twin Oaks House and Gardens traces its roots to 1875, when a Civil War veteran homesteaded 160 acres along what is now Deer Springs Road in San Marcos. The property took its name from two massive oak trees that appeared to grow from a single dual acorn, standing in near-perfect symmetry. Those trees still stand today.

In 1891, a Victorian-style schoolhouse was built on a 2.7-acre portion of the land. It served as both a school and the social center of the surrounding community for over fifty years before closing in 1943. The grounds were converted into a dedicated wedding estate in 2000, with the schoolhouse carefully restored and the surrounding land reimagined as a curated English garden. The estate is now managed by Trademark Venues and is recognized as a San Marcos Historic Landmark.
