Shira and Jacob’s Enchanted November Wedding
Some couples feel like friends from the very first meeting. Shira and Jacob were exactly that. I met them at the Bridal Bazaar wedding expo, and we hit it off right away. They loved my photos. Even more, they connected with my approach to telling the story of a wedding day. Shira and Jacob met through mutual friends at their rock climbing gym. That tells you a lot about them: adventurous, easygoing, and always up for something new. Their first “date” was supposed to be a group trip with friends to Disneyland. When everyone else backed out, the two of them went anyway. Seventeen hours later, they were still there. Between their love of Harry Potter, cozy speakeasy bars, and a good book, it’s easy to see their personalities everywhere. Their Jewish wedding at Green Gables Wedding Estate in San Marcos was full of personality, tradition, and joy.

Where Tradition Met Whimsy: A Jewish Wedding at Green Gables
Shira and Jacob chose Green Gables Wedding Estate for their ceremony and reception, and it’s easy to see why. “The venue was a perfect fit for everything we wanted: the atmosphere, the little details in the venue, the ease of planning, and having an incredible suite for the bridal party, both the men and women,” they shared. Their favorite features were “the groomsmen speakeasy and the photo op location of the swing.” Both spots made for some of our most memorable portraits of the day.
Green Gables happens to be one of my favorite venues in San Diego. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing there several times. Tucked into San Marcos, it’s a bit of a hidden gem. The vintage schoolhouse and lush greenery give the whole property a whimsical, storybook feel. There’s a wide variety of beautiful spots to explore, without ever feeling spread out too far.

A Jewish Wedding Ceremony Full of Tradition and Heart
The ceremony took place beneath towering, string-light-draped trees, with a white chuppah trimmed in greenery as the centerpiece. It’s a beautiful example of how a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony can feel both timeless and completely personal. Following the ceremony, guests danced their way through a joyful Hora. They lifted Shira and Jacob high on chairs as the whole crowd cheered them on. It’s one of my favorite traditions to photograph because the energy is simply contagious.
Shira and Jacob leaned into their personalities everywhere they could. “All of the small details in the wedding are uniquely us,” they told me, “from our vows in the ceremony to the soundtracks we chose to play during cocktail hour. Every piece has a part of us that we hope guests recognize.” One of my favorite touches was their Harry Potter-inspired “potion bottles.” They filled the bottles with flavored syrups and edible glitter, letting guests mix their own custom mocktails. “It was important to us to have a nonalcoholic option that still felt special,” they shared, and it absolutely was.
Their choreographed first dance was another highlight of the evening. It brought a little extra polish and fun to their reception send-off into married life. As the sun went down, we headed out for night portraits around the property. We used the string lights and garden pathways to create romantic, cinematic images.

Lace, Navy Tuxes, and a Pinterest-Perfect Dress
Shira’s gown was a romantic A-line silhouette, covered in delicate floral lace appliqué. It finished with a dramatic cathedral-length train. She paired it with a chapel-length veil and a jeweled hair comb with small blue accents. The look tied in beautifully with her bouquet of navy, mauve, and ivory blooms. As Shira explained, “Going into the dress selection, Jacob was allowed to see a Pinterest board to know what he thought of certain dress styles. The dress picked out was really basically the same style as what was on there, so I knew he would find it beautiful, and I felt beautiful in it.” Jacob wanted something a little different for his own look, too. As they explained, “For the tux, Jacob wanted something different than a black tux but still timeless and classy.” He landed on a rich navy tuxedo from Tux Club that suited him perfectly.

From Sunset Vows to Starlit Portraits
My team and I provided full photo and video coverage of Shira and Jacob’s day. We captured everything from getting ready through their reception festivities and night portraits. We took bridal portraits around the property’s charming vintage schoolhouse. Jacob and his groomsmen got ready in the venue’s speakeasy suite. Then they headed out to the garden paths for their own portraits. During dinner, we surprised the couple and their guests with Same-Day Edits. It gave their families heartfelt highlights to enjoy together before the night was even over.
Shira and Jacob were an absolute joy to work with from start to finish. They trusted my guidance every step of the way. That meant strategizing their wedding day timeline and balancing elegant portraits with candid, emotional moments. As they put it, “Paul has been so involved and taking time to make sure the time leading up to the wedding was a reminder of what the day was all about.” Getting to be part of their day was truly an honor.
Congratulations again to Shira and Jacob! Thank you for welcoming me into such a beautiful, meaningful celebration. Here’s to many more adventures together, on the rock wall and beyond.
