When Ravyn and Andrew reached out about their engagement session, I knew it was going to be something special. They wanted something playful and urban, and when they mentioned incorporating Mission Control—a local arcade bar where they had their first date—I was all in. Their arcade engagement photos were the perfect mix of personal, stylish, and downright fun.
These two originally met through an online app and bonded quickly over their love of dancing, music, and having Disneyland passes. From the start, they’ve always loved being silly together, and that playful spirit showed up all throughout the session. I’ve known Andrew since our high school theater days, so this shoot felt extra meaningful. They asked me to be the one to capture this part of their story, but I won’t be photographing the wedding itself—they want me there as a guest to celebrate with them (which I’m really honored by).

Instead of a typical beach session, they chose a more urban vibe. I always encourage couples to pick locations that actually mean something to them—and Mission Control was an easy choice. It’s not only the site of their first date, but a place they’ve returned to time and again throughout their relationship.
They arranged for us to visit the bar just before opening, giving us space to get creative. With the whole place to ourselves, it set the perfect stage for creative freedom. The colorful glow of the games, the retro textures, and the soft light filtering in from the front windows gave their arcade engagement photos a totally cinematic vibe.

For their session, I offered prompts and cues to keep things light and relaxed. Their natural chemistry did the rest. I used a mix of natural light and off-camera flash to shape the atmosphere from the very start—balancing soft romantic tones with lively, candid energy between arcade games. Urban sessions like this are a blast, full of new textures, reflections, and compositions. I especially loved the way the neon lights reflected off the arcade glass. And when the couple is this fun and connected? It’s magic.
