The Oaks at Duncan Lane grew out of a family legacy in large-scale event production. Co-owner and founder Shayla Luck grew up watching her parents run Big Top Rentals, a sizable corporate event rental company, and spent years quietly building toward a venue of her own. When COVID-19 postponed her college graduation and her own wedding, the family converted their private Pala property into a purpose-built wedding estate rather than wait for the world to open back up.
From the beginning, the estate was designed to solve the friction points that frustrate couples most about traditional venues. The layout was intentionally engineered to guide guests from arrival to departure in a logical, natural flow while keeping the wedding parties completely separate until the couple is ready to be seen. Shayla brought in Head Coordinator Linda Engstrom, a Cal State San Marcos-certified event planner with over nine years of industry experience and the distinction of having coordinated Luck's own wedding, to help build the operational backbone before the first booking ever took place. That foundation of care and firsthand experience is visible at every level of the venue today.

The Oak Meadows is the heart of the estate and the primary site for both ceremonies and receptions. A dense canopy of ancient oak trees shades the space, keeping it comfortable even during warmer months. Permanently installed string and market lights wrap the massive tree trunks and span overhead, casting a warm, ambient glow once the sun goes down. This site works beautifully for rustic and natural themes, garden-party receptions, and any couple who wants their wedding to feel like it's happening inside a living, lit-up forest.

Positioned on a gentle elevation at the top of the property, Oak Creek Canyon offers a more dramatic, wide-open feel. Panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges frame the space, and a seasonal stream runs adjacent to the lawn, adding a natural, peaceful sound to the ceremony. The site is fully equipped with tree-to-tree string lighting that transitions seamlessly from bright afternoon ceremony to starlit evening reception. This is the spot for couples who want sweeping scenery and a sense of elevation, literally and figuratively.

The Terrace is a raised, crescent-shaped stone structure positioned centrally between the two get-ready suites, making it the natural gathering point during the cocktail hour. A built-in bar, cocktail tables, lounge furniture, and glowing fire pits give it a warm, social atmosphere while guests enjoy hors d'oeuvres and overlooking the Meadows below as the wedding party takes portraits. It can also be used as an intimate ceremony space or a stage for live performances.

For couples who want some coverage without sacrificing the open-air feel of the estate, the Pavilion and Barn provide semi-enclosed shelter with serious visual impact. High, exposed wood-beam ceilings and modern industrial lighting make these spaces ideal for grand reception dinners, cake cuttings, and late-night dancing. The structures are newly built and designed to integrate cleanly with the surrounding gardens rather than interrupt them.

The Oak's Nest is a fully functional 3,058-square-foot luxury residence that serves as the bridal suite. Three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a chef's kitchen, cozy living areas, and a fireplace make it a comfortable home base for the wedding morning. The second floor includes a dedicated hair and makeup salon with multiple natural-light windows and styling mirrors, designed specifically for preparation-day use. Newlyweds also receive an overnight stay here on their wedding night.
The Oak's Den occupies a separate side cottage on the property and serves as the groom's lounge. It comes stocked with a private restroom, vanity space, media centers, video game consoles, and pre-loaded cooling fridges. Its design is intentionally relaxed and recreational, giving the groom's party a comfortable place to settle in and decompress before the ceremony.
The Oaks at Duncan Lane uses an all-inclusive pricing model that bundles the venue, catering, bar service, staffing, coordination, entertainment, and rentals into a single package. Pricing scales with guest count and day of the week, but remains consistent across all seasons.

The second-floor salon inside the Oak's Nest is built around natural light. Soaring ceilings and wide window arrays flood the room with soft, even light that is ideal for preparation portraits, bridesmaid robe shots, and detail images of the dress hung against the neutral interior backdrop.
The natural stone staircase descends from the Oak's Nest toward the ceremony lawn, framed by climbing ivy and mature oak trunks. It was designed specifically to give the bride a dramatic entrance, and photographers use it for motion shots, trailing veil portraits, and wide-angle bridal portraits.
Located just below the main dressing suite, this secluded terrace is enclosed by lush climbing ivy and dense greenery. It is private enough to host a first look or first touch before the ceremony begins, and the soft, filtered light makes it one of the most consistently beautiful spots on the property for intimate portraits.
During late-afternoon receptions, golden hour light filters through the oak canopy and spills into the adjacent lavender fields. This is the window most photographers prioritize for soft, cinematic couple portraits with a warm, layered feel.
The canyon lawn sits at the highest point of the property, with unobstructed views of the surrounding mountain peaks. This space is ideal for sweeping landscape portraits, dramatic couple silhouettes against the ridgeline, and aerial drone photography.
After dark, the lit fire pits on the cocktail terrace create a warm, ambient glow that works beautifully for candid, photojournalistic coverage. Guests laughing around the fire, drinks in hand, under an open sky is a scene that photographs itself.
