A Brief  History of The Oaks At Duncan Lane



 

The inspiration for The Oaks at Duncan Lane came from its founder, Shayla Luck. As a child, her family (The Duncans) owned a party rental business. Shayla loved wedding events more than anything, and she always dreamed of facilitating weddings as an adult. After the pandemic delayed her own wedding, she decided it was time to pursue her dreams. With the help of her husband, her family, and the rest of the Oaks at Duncan team, they've created a venue that fulfills the dreams of every engaged couple.

Of course, the oak trees are the most notable feature at The Oaks at Duncan Lane, but they are far from the only special features this lovely space provides. The wedding venue also offers the following:

The guest count limit at The Oaks at Duncan Lane is 200 people. The dressing suite and loft in the Oak’s Nest and the Oak’s Den are available at 10 a.m. on the big day. Beverages including beer, champagne, and sparkling cider will be provided at each of these locations. The Dressing Suite in the Oak’s Nest is complete with a large three-sided mirror to view your wedding attire from all angles, a queen-size bed perfect for taking cute robe photos with the bride’s entourage, remote-controlled fireplace and window shades, and a private deck to relax and enjoy a cocktail or coffee (from the Nespresso machine in the downstairs kitchen) while the Oaks crew sets up the ceremony site below.

The Oak’s Den, directly across the Terrace from the Nest, is a cozy separate building for the other half of the wedding party to prepare for the day, complete with beverages, a Nintendo Switch including all the original games, a smart TV with Netflix, and a covered back patio — a perfect and comfy spot for any wedding party to enjoy and get spiffed up.

A small stone terrace visible from the Dressing Suite is a perfect and popular location for First Looks, surrounded by lush greenery.
There is no indoor option for the ceremony, but the open-air venue leaves no wedding box unchecked. In colder months or on days with inclement weather, the Oaks can provide tenting, including draperies and decor. There are two main ceremony sites:

The Oak Meadows, which offers a classic and rustic setting, surrounded by mature trees draped with lighting for that extra hint of romanticism.

The Oak Creek Canyon, which provides a backdrop of a majestic mountain range with a nearby stream on top of a stunning hillside.

As the bride descends the grand staircase, wedding guests will see her in all her beauty amidst a classic natural backdrop of green ivy and oak trees — the photos will be incredible. 

After the ceremony, the Terrace between the two houses hosts cocktail hour. Fire pits will be turned on for the guests to enjoy their drinks and hors d’oeouvres while the couple takes photos. The bartending and catering staff customizes the menu to each couple’s specifications.

When it comes to kicking off the reception, the Oaks venue includes both catering and a DJ, so you don't have to worry about anything. The venue even has a honeymoon suite in the main house — no need to rush off for the holiday.

The venue really is a one-stop place for wedding planning and execution. The family business aims to take the stress out of the wedding process and make the big day magnificent. 

Price for Hosting a Southern California Wedding at The Oaks At Duncan Lane

Wedding collections at The Oaks at Duncan Lane cost roughly $9,800. However, the San Diego wedding venue does negotiate all-inclusive pricing to include the ceremony, reception, tables, linens, sound and lighting, glassware and flatware, a wedding planner, china, chairs, food, and drinks at a per-guest price (minimum of 75 guests). 

Bar Service starts at around $1500, and it includes the couple’s choice of wine and beer, signature cocktails, premium liquor options, and the bar staff themselves.
