A Fall Engagement Session at Torrey Pines
Late September is one of my favorite times of year for engagement fall photos, especially along the Southern California coast. Natalie and Dillon’s session at Torrey Pines Nature Reserve felt calm, meaningful, and deeply personal from the start. The light was soft, the air had just a hint of fall, and the setting offered space to slow down and simply be present together. That tone matched them perfectly.
Natalie and Dillon’s story spans both distance and intention. Natalie was living in Tennessee and visiting California to see her sister when she met Dillon. What started as a chance meeting turned into a long-distance relationship that lasted nearly two years. Eventually, Natalie made the move to California, closing the gap and beginning their next chapter together.
Their engagement story is just as thoughtful. They are sentimental people, and Natalie has never cared for a traditional big diamond. So, Dillon had a custom ring made featuring the face of their dog, Daisy. Early on in their relationship, Natalie jokingly told him her ring size, “whenever you’re ready to wife me up.” Daisy sadly passed away in March, which makes the ring even more meaningful. Natalie has said she would not trade it for all the diamonds in the world. I first connected with Natalie and Dillon through social media, and from our first conversation, it was clear how much intention they bring to their relationship.

The Perfect Location for Their Engagement Fall Photos
Torrey Pines Nature Reserve was an easy choice for them. They both love hiking and spent time there early in their relationship. Returning for their engagement felt like coming full circle. For engagement fall photos, Torrey Pines offers a rare variety. Forest-like trails sit just steps from open cliffs and sweeping coastal views. Rocky bluffs, textured foliage, and winding paths give every session a sense of movement and depth. From my perspective as a wedding photographer in San Diego, it is one of the most versatile locations in the area. No two sessions look the same, which is something I value as a Southern California wedding photographer.

A Relaxed and Cinematic Engagement Experience
For Natalie and Dillon, my focus was on creating an experience that felt easy. I spent time learning what they liked and what they wanted to avoid. That way, the session felt natural, not forced. I used simple prompts to help them relax and interact, rather than posing them stiffly. Their connection came through quickly. I blended natural light with off-camera flash to create a mix of cinematic images and candid moments. This approach gave them variety while still keeping the session grounded and real. Their engagement fall photos reflect both their romance and their playful energy.

A Meaningful Start to the Next Chapter
Natalie and Dillon’s session is a reminder that the best engagement fall photos come from trust and connection. Torrey Pines gave us the backdrop, but their energy carried the images. As a San Diego wedding photographer, experiences like this are why I love what I do. These moments become part of a larger journey, whether it leads to a local San Diego wedding or a destination wedding planned with care and intention.
