A Brief History of La Valencia Hotel
Also referred to as the “Pink Lady of La Jolla” because of its iconic pink exterior, the La Valencia Hotel opened its doors in December 1926 as Los Apartamentos de Sevilla. Its founding owners, Roy and MacArthur Gorton, spent $200,000 to build it. Originally, the hotel featured Spanish-style architecture and was a lavish getaway for Hollywood elites.
As a matter of fact, this landmark hotel also played an active role in World War II. It was a temporary residence for hundreds of officers on leave or waiting to travel overseas. Young wives of such officers would also reside in this hotel as they awaited their loved ones to return.
Over the years, La Valencia has undergone many renovations to enhance its amenities. In 2010, the entire property was renovated to feature the ICON suites, Cafe la Rue, and the Presidential Room (previously the Sky Room), a beautiful space with exquisite views of the Pacific coastline.
For over 95 years, this stunning hotel continues to feature the most glamorous Southern California wedding venues. Thanks to its world-class amenities, services, and iconic status, the property joined the exclusive Preferred Hotels Worldwide association in 1942. In 1989, this popular San Diego hotel became a Historic Hotels of America charter member, the National Trust for Historic Preservation's official program that celebrates and appreciates some of the most historic hotels in the world.

Available for up to 150 guests, El Jardin is the most popular space for wedding ceremonies in La Valencia. This ocean-view garden features turf flooring, lush and colorful flora, a bougainvillea perimeter, manicured hedges, and a blank canvas, allowing you to create any wedding theme against the beautiful Pacific coastline.
The Veranda Salon, Terraza, and Ballroom
Enjoy a romantic and intimate wedding ceremony and reception under the towering palms set against stunning ocean views from the Terraza, and host your reception in the adjacent stunning Veranda Ballroom. Featuring more than 3,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space this space can accommodate approximately 175 guests. The Ballroom also boasts a black and white marble foyer with crystal chandeliers for a timeless and elegant look.
The Mediterranean Room's Outdoor Patio
Truly showing the stylish and relaxing style of La Valencia, the Mediterranean Room's Patio Sol provides a balmy breeze under the La Jolla sky. This space hosts between 50 to 150 guests and is perfect for receptions, post-wedding brunches, and cocktails.
Galeria Salon
If you prefer an intimate reception or dinner of up to 50 guests, the Galeria Salon is an ideal option. This romantic space features plenty of natural lighting, splendid ocean views, and French-designed doors that showcase two small balconies with magnificent views of the La Jolla Coastline. It's large arched windows overlook the La Sala Lounge, making for beautiful views in all directions.
Vendimia Salon
Also known as the Blue Room, the Vendimia Salon offers a private space for 20 guests or less. It features a spectacular display collection of red wine as well as a tranquil and sophisticated atmosphere, perfect for rehearsal dinners or a getting-ready room.

- Friday Weddings: $15,000
- Saturday Weddings: $22,000
These prices include using the venue, chairs for the wedding ceremony and reception, tables and linen, custom menu, glassware, and flatware, as well as clean up and setup.
The La Valencia Hotel also offers three specialty wedding and reception packages priced per guest to make planning your special day a breeze (as long as you’re on top of your RSVP list!).
Bubbles & Brunch
This package features an expansive brunch buffet and dessert station for a laid-back early reception, available only on Sundays 10am-3pm at $120 per guest.
Premiere
The Premier Package offers a perfect mix of casual and luxury, with tray-passed hours d’oeuvres and your selection of first course and entree options. This option is priced at $185 per guest for Saturday weddings, and $170 per guest on other days of the week.
Icon
The Icon collection is for luxury wedding receptions with tray-passed hours d’oeuvres and your choice of a three-course meal. This package goes for $235 per guest on Saturdays and $210 per guest on other days.
