A Joyful September Marina Wedding in San Diego
Julianne and Josh’s September celebration was the kind of marina wedding that feels both sacred and celebratory. I met Julianne at a wedding expo, and we immediately connected over the importance of preserving wedding memories well. She cared deeply about photographs that would last.
Their ceremony took place at Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church, followed by a reception at Marina Village with sweeping ocean views. My team and I documented the entire day, from getting ready through the grand exit, and earlier in the year, we had a fun engagement session at Balboa Park that helped them feel completely at ease in front of the camera. Julianne’s enthusiasm was contagious. Josh appreciated guidance and came alive once he felt comfortable. They were gracious and kind at every step. When I asked which vendor they were most excited about, they said, “Our photographer because we know that our visions align and can’t wait to see the beautiful photos that he is going to capture.” That trust meant everything.

A Catholic Ceremony at Our Mother of Confidence
Having a Catholic wedding was deeply important to them. They loved the beauty and architecture of Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church. The soaring ceilings and crucifix created a reverent backdrop for their vows. Julianne wore an off-the-shoulder A-line gown with delicate floral appliqué and a soft tulle overlay. Her cathedral-length veil moved beautifully along the church steps. Pearl-embellished heels with oversized bows added a romantic, vintage-inspired touch. Josh wore a tailored black suit with a dark tie and emerald boutonnière. The groomsmen mirrored him in black suits and green ties, while the bridesmaids wore rich emerald gowns that felt perfect for early fall, except for her Matron of Honor, her sister, who wore pink, echoing the bright florals they chose. After the ceremony, we captured portraits inside the grand church. Then we transitioned to sunset portraits around Marina Village, where the ocean light added depth and softness.

A Vibrant Marina Wedding Reception at Marina Village
Their marina wedding reception embraced both of their favorite colors. As they shared, “We wanted to incorporate both of our favorite colors to show both of us coming together.” Red roses, hot pink blooms, blush accents, and lush greenery filled the space. “We went classic with roses and were able to incorporate Julianne’s favorite flower, calla lily.”
Gold satin draping, chiavari chairs, and a vintage gold-framed welcome sign added warmth. Floating candles with rose petals created a glow across the tables. White walls with soft purple uplighting kept the design modern and refined. Marina Village made planning easier, too. The couple told me, “We loved the location, and everything was taken care of in-house. It took away a lot of the stress of the planning.” Their favorite feature? “The view and the backdrop for photos. They wanted guests to have “a great time… and have a night to remember.” And they did.
Throughout the day, I guided their timeline so it felt unhurried. We balanced elegant portraiture with candid, emotional moments. This marina wedding was joyful, intentional, and deeply personal. Julianne and Josh, congratulations. Your San Diego wedding was a beautiful beginning, and I am so honored to have preserved it for you.
