Celebrating 25 Years of Love: Devika and Devin’s Indian Wedding Vow Renewal in Temecula
This summer, I had the honor of photographing a truly heartwarming celebration: Devika and Devin’s wedding vow renewal. Marking their 25th wedding anniversary, this couple decided it was finally time for the wedding they’d always dreamed of. Devika and Devin never had the chance for a “proper” wedding while raising their four children (three sons and a daughter). Now empty nesters, they seized the opportunity to celebrate their enduring love with a vibrant Indian wedding ceremony — a dream Devika had cherished for years.
Devin found my work online and was drawn to my mix of journalistic storytelling and fine art portraits. They shared that they learned through the poor experience from their son’s wedding photos that good wedding photography is worth investing in. Their proposal story — featuring beach sand, a stick, and a Monty Python joke—perfectly captured their humor and connection. Devin wrote “Marry?” in the sand, and Devika replied with “I Daaauuugghh…,” mimicking a dramatic line from their favorite comedy sketch. Neither knew they shared a love for Monty Python until that moment, making it an unforgettable proposal.
In August, their ceremony took place at a newly established Indian temple in Temecula, followed by an intimate backyard reception at their son’s home. From start to finish, their day was filled with joy, laughter, and the vibrant colors of tradition.
A Stunning Indian Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony
Devika and Devin embraced traditional Indian wedding attire for their ceremony. Devika radiated elegance in a red and gold sari, while Devin donned a regal cream and gold sherwani. The Indian temple provided a spiritual backdrop for their vows, despite a last-minute scheduling mishap with painters working on-site.
The reception, a charming backyard soiree hosted by their son, reflected the couple’s shared love of Monty Python. Tables featured whimsical names like “The Green Knight” and “The Holy Grail,” complete with playful illustrations. Devika and Devin, self-proclaimed foodies, raved about their catering by Chef Jillian Fae. “We were fortunate to book her. She creates dishes especially for her clients,” they shared. After dinner, Devin surprised Devika with a heartfelt poem displayed on a custom posterboard, bringing tears to his bride’s eyes.
