Los Angeles Wedding Venue Guide

A Brief History of Cielo Farms

Cielo Farms began as a private estate owned by the Hirsh family, whose background in design and craftsmanship shaped the property’s intentional development. The land was purchased in the 1980s, with construction beginning in the late 1990s and vineyards planted in the early 2000s.

Over time, the estate evolved from a personal retreat into a fully realized vineyard and event space. Today, it remains family-owned, with over 30 acres of working vineyards and olive groves that create a setting that feels established, authentic, and thoughtfully designed rather than built solely for events.

Noteworthy Features of
Cielo Farms

Cielo Farms stands out as a Southern California wedding venue for couples who want a setting that feels immersive and intentional from start to finish.

Tuscan-Inspired Architecture

The stone barn, exposed wood beams, fireplaces, and natural materials create a warm, European atmosphere that photographs beautifully and requires minimal additional decor.

Vineyards and Olive Groves

The property is a working vineyard, which means your backdrop is not just scenic but real. Rows of vines, mature olive trees, and rolling hills create depth and variety throughout the day.

Private, Single-Event Experience

Only one wedding is hosted at a time, giving you full access to the property and a sense of privacy that’s hard to replicate in more commercial venues.

Elevated Location

At around 2,000 feet above sea level, the views stretch across the Santa Monica Mountains, creating a natural focal point for both ceremonies and portraits.

Built-In Ambiance

Market lighting, built-in sound systems, and outdoor fireplaces are already woven into the property. The venue arrives dressed. Couples need far less external decoration than at most comparable venues.

Bridal Loft and On-Site Preparation

A dedicated Bridal Loft provides a refined space for the wedding party to get ready, and the estate's six residential bedrooms are sometimes available for the couple and their closest family and friends.

ADA Accessibility

The entire venue is handicap accessible, with ADA-compliant facilities throughout.

Ceremony & Reception Sites Offered by This Los Angeles Wedding Venue

One of the strengths of Cielo Farms is how the day can flow through multiple spaces, each with a distinct feel. Guests move naturally between spaces as the day unfolds, from hilltop ceremony to terrace cocktails to a candlelit dinner under the stars. The venue accommodates up to 200 guests, and the variety of distinct spaces ensures that even smaller gatherings feel intentional rather than sparse.

The South Garden Lawn (Outdoor Reception Space): Located south of the barn, the manicured South Garden is anchored by a large, mature tree that serves as a natural focal point for ceremonies and toasts. It is the most versatile space on the property for medium to large weddings.
  • Atmosphere: Manicured, natural, grounded
  • Capacity: Up to 120 guests
  • Ideal For: Wedding ceremonies, reception dinners

The Vineyards: For couples who want something truly immersive, dinner can be set directly between the rows of grapevines. It is an experience that feels distinctly Malibu and unlike any other reception setting in the region.
  • Atmosphere: Authentic wine country, layered, organic
  • Capacity: Variable
  • Ideal For: Immersive dining, portraits, editorial-style photography

Full Estate Buy-Out: When the South Garden, vineyard lawns, and terrace are used together, Cielo Farms accommodates its full capacity for a seated dinner under the stars.
  • Atmosphere: Grand, multi-dimensional, exclusive
  • Up to 200 guests
The Outlook (Ceremony Site): The Outlook is the most dramatic setting on the property. Positioned at the edge of a canyon ridge, this semi-private hilltop terrace delivers unobstructed 360-degree views of the Santa Monica Mountains and the valleys below. As the sun descends toward the mountain ridge at golden hour, the light hitting the valley below is something photographers describe as unmissable.
  • Atmosphere: Cinematic, elevated, suspended above the Malibu landscape
  • Capacity: 50 to 75 guests
  • Ideal For: Wedding ceremonies, proposals, elopements

The Stone Barn (Indoor Space):
The Stone Barn is the estate's architectural centerpiece. High ceilings, wood beams, stone walls, and indoor fireplaces make it one of the most visually layered indoor spaces of any Los Angeles wedding venue. For smaller weddings, it serves as the primary gathering space. For larger events, it functions as a cocktail lounge, rain plan backup, or intimate gathering room during the reception.
  • Atmosphere: Warm, rustic, architecturally rich
  • Capacity: Up to 30 guests for a seated dinner
  • Ideal For: Preparations, cocktail hour, intimate lounge, rain contingency

The Terrace (Cocktail & Dining): Immediately adjacent to the Stone Barn, the stone-paved Terrace is the social heart of the estate. Built-in fireplaces, fairy lights strung overhead, and mountain views in every direction make this one of the most comfortable outdoor spaces available for an al fresco cocktail hour or seated dinner.
  • Atmosphere: Sophisticated, warm, sunset-facing
  • Capacity: 20 to 90 guests
  • Ideal For: Cocktail hour, intimate outdoor dining, sunset gatherings

Wedding Photo Opportunities at
Cielo Farms

The Ivy-Covered Stone Arch
A romantic, European-style arch that frames couple portraits with depth and architectural weight. The warm lighting integrated throughout the property makes this spot equally usable at midday or as evening falls.

The Stone Barn Fireplaces
For evening portraits, the flickering fireplace light inside and outside the barn combines beautifully with the ambient market lighting overhead. These conditions produce warm, moody images with a genuinely candid feel.

The Infinity Pool
Part of the residential estate, the pool area offers a high-fashion setting with sweeping mountain views. It is most often used for wedding party portraits during the morning preparation window.

A Note on Timing and Seasonality
Because the estate sits atop an open ridge with limited natural shade, midday sun during summer months can be harsh. The most experienced photographers plan their portrait sessions tightly around the golden hour window. Spring brings vivid green hillsides; autumn layers in warm golden tones that complement the stone architecture particularly well.

Cielo Farms is a photographer's landscape as much as it is an event venue. The combination of elevation, Mediterranean architecture, mature vines, and ever-shifting Malibu light creates conditions that produce images most couples only hope for.

The Outlook at Golden Hour
This is the most important photographic window at the venue. In the hour before sunset, the valley below catches warm, low-angled light that softens everything and turns the mountain landscape into something luminous. It is the single most sought-after moment in any Cielo Farms wedding day.

The Rolling Vineyards
The vineyard rows offer scale, movement, and texture. Couples walking between the vines create images that feel expansive and personal at the same time. The agricultural setting grounds what could otherwise feel like an editorial fashion shoot.

What Couples Say About Having Their Wedding At Cielo Farms

Couples and wedding professionals consistently describe Cielo Farms as one of the most visually compelling and personally memorable wedding venues in the Los Angeles area. Reviews frequently celebrate the venue's breathtaking sunset views, the quality of the cuisine provided by Trés LA Catering (often described as Michelin-caliber), and the attentiveness of the on-site venue representatives. Many couples describe the property as feeling both grand and intimate, a setting that holds a large celebration without ever losing its sense of warmth and seclusion. Reviewers do note that the venue's luxury pricing, exclusive vendor requirements, and the 10:00 PM noise curfew require careful planning and a realistic budget, and summer weddings benefit from thoughtful heat management for guests. Still, the overwhelming sentiment is that Cielo Farms delivers on its promise: a pristine, cinematic, wine-country wedding experience that feels unlike anything else in Southern California.
