🛩️ Let’s nose-dive into the beautiful spring wedding of Sydney and Josh at the iconic Carlsbad Windmill. These two lovebirds have quite the story. They met through a mutual friend, and even though Sydney was finishing up optometry school in Southern California while Josh lived in Indiana, their long-distance love stood the test! Fate brought me to them at a local San Diego wedding expo. We hit it off right from the start. Photographing their May wedding was an absolute dream, complete with thrilling airport runway photos that added an unforgettable touch to their special day!

All-Inclusive Bliss: The Charm of the Carlsbad Windmill

At the Carlsbad Windmill by Wedgewood Weddings, Sydney and Josh found their dream space for their special day. Despite considering venues in Indiana, nothing could match the allure of the Windmill. In their own words: “We like that the venue was attached to a hotel, close to the beach and other fun things to do in SoCal, and we love that there is an arcade and food court!” Being an all-inclusive venue, it provided everything they needed for the celebration, from the perfect space to catering, bar services, a DJ, and even linens and chairs. “All-inclusive was the right choice with us both being out of state leading up to the big day,” they said, and I couldn’t agree more.

As a Southern California wedding photographer, I was thrilled to capture their day at such a picturesque location. Of course, the iconic Windmill serves is a classic photo spot, complemented by the hotel’s lush greenery and the inviting gazebo area. The venue’s charm extended to its getting-ready suites, ensuring both the bride and groom felt pampered before their “I do’s.” The chapel, bathed in natural light, provided a celestial setting for their vows.

Sydney stunned in the ethereal Sol gown from Grace Loves Lace, exuding charm with a touch of boho flair. Josh rocked a custom-made charcoal suit that perfectly complemented Sydney’s bridal elegance. Their wedding vision of “sophistication with a pop of fun” came to life with ocean-inspired bridesmaid dresses, matching groomsmen ties, and pampas grass accents adding a touch of boho chic. During cocktail hour, they served their favorite libations as their signature drinks: Vegas bombs and margaritas!

When it came to bringing their vision to life, Sydney and Josh were a dream to work with. Their excitement to have me capture their day was beyond flattering, and I made sure to cover all their special moments! Their heartfelt first on the windmill’s balcony set the tone for a day filled with love and laughter. After some photos with their wedding party, the time came for the couple’s special airport runway photos! With Josh being a professional pilot, we ventured to a nearby airport where we captured their love against the backdrop of planes and open skies. The results? Pure magic! It was a moment that perfectly encapsulated their unique journey and shared passions.

Held in the venue’s high-ceilinged chapel, their shared faith shone through their vows and a touching unity cross ritual. During the reception, they turned up the excitement by surprising their guests with an energetic grand entrance and some seriously special dances. You better believe Sydney’s father-daughter dance was a highlight! Sydney surprised everyone, especially her dad, when she switched the tune to “Take Me Out To The Ball Game!” Sydney brought out a baseball and gloves and had a game of catch with her dad right there on the dance floor. It was the sweetest thing!
