Engagements

Julianne + Josh | Emerald Elegance in Springtime Engagement Photos | San Diego

From Geometry Class to a Disney Proposal

There’s something magical about springtime engagement photos, especially when they capture a love story years in the making. Julianne and Josh first met in a freshman geometry class in Texas. Josh sat behind her, and Julianne took the first step by asking him out. Six and a half years later, their bond has only grown stronger. Together they share a love for the outdoors, hiking, traveling, and exploring wherever they can. Their joy for Disney made a perfect backdrop for their proposal at Disney World.

I first met Julianne at the Bridal Bazaar, where she immediately resonated with my cinematic style of wedding photography. From that first conversation, it was clear they were a couple who valued authentic connection and artistry.

Balboa Park: Where Romance Meets Architecture

Balboa Park was the natural choice for their engagement session, with blooming flowers, ornate facades, historic Spanish architecture, lush gardens, and wide-open spaces offering endless variety. Julianne and Josh loved the idea of mixing timeless architecture with natural beauty, especially since their upcoming wedding reception at Marina Village will showcase more of San Diego’s coastal charm. The contrast between city and sea felt like the perfect balance for their story.

As a San Diego wedding photographer, Balboa Park is one of the most versatile places in Southern California. Whether framed by intricate arches or nestled among blooming gardens, every corner of the park feels cinematic. It’s a location that gives couples a gallery full of dynamic, timeless options.

Springtime Engagement Photos in Full Bloom

When we started shooting, I guided Julianne and Josh with prompts designed to bring out their natural personalities. Their coordinated emerald green outfits popped beautifully against the warm tones of the architecture and the vibrant greens of the gardens. After guiding them with prompts to relax and connect, I then blended natural light with off-camera flash. This approach created both glowing, candid moments and bold, cinematic portraits. The result was a gallery that showcased their romance, their playfulness, and their undeniable bond.

Sessions like this remind me why spring portraits are such a joy to capture. The season brings soft light, fresh blooms, and a sense of renewal that mirrors the excitement of planning a wedding.

A Beautiful Prelude to Their Wedding Day

Julianne and Josh’s engagement session at Balboa Park was the perfect reflection of their story, playful, romantic, and filled with vibrant energy. As their Southern California wedding photographer, I loved creating images that celebrate both their love and the beauty of San Diego. With their Marina Village wedding ahead, these photos stand as a timeless prelude to the next chapter in their journey together. Just like their love for Disney adventures and the outdoors, this session captured both the playful and heartfelt sides of their story. If you’re planning your own engagement session or wedding in San Diego, I’d love to connect and create something just as meaningful for you.
